2009 SPRING ART CLASSES AND WORKSHOPS
Spring is around the corner and we are all dreaming of green grass, blossoming flowers and the feelings of renewal and growth. With Spring comes the dawn of new ideas and awakening energy and with the magic of paint and paintbrush we can give it expression on our paper or canvas. LUMINOUS FLOWERS WITH LORRI PULLMAN MacDONALD - With acrylic paint, learn how to capture sunlight coming through flower petals. Students will learn how to use mediums and glazes to create a floral painting that glows with light. This class is suitable for painters of all levels. (bring 2 canvases - 9x12 along with regular supplies - supply list available upon registration)

EXPLORING THE MAGICAL WORLD OF YUPO WITH KARIN RICHTER - Come and have a day of fun exploring the ways of painting on YUPO, a fairly new synthetic, totally slick paper from Japan. Enjoy the slippery surface, the way the paint moves, mingles, marbles,and puddles, creating beautiful unpredictable results. Learn how to manipulate and control this exciting surface! People have really enjoyed the watercolor and acrylic classes we had with Karin and we are excited to have her back for this new class. She is easy going, full of knowledge that she readily shares.

OIL PAINTING WITH CLAIRE MILES - Discover the materials and techniques for oil painting. Learn the basics and lots of tips in this class. Bring out your creativity even if you have never tried this medium. Claire teaches everyone with a one on one approach. This class if open to all levels. If oils is the medium you want to try, this class is for you. If you are an experienced oil painter, Claire will help you break through to the next level.

ART, HUMOUR AND THE UNIQUENESS OF YOU WITH KARIN HUEHOLD - Another entrance into the wonderful world of Karin Huehold… This class is a day of lighthearted learning
and playing ! Karin will guide you through a number of fun exercises in watercolor to get those creative muscles moving. This will help you loosen up, trust your INTUITIVE mark making, and help you discover your own PERSONAL AND UNIQUE STYLE OF EXPRESSION.

INTRODUCTORY INKS WITH URSULA REYNOLDS - We are happy to offer this class again with a bonus this time. Ursula will be teaching design and composition for half a day first. The student will learn about the principles of design – what is good design? What to avoid, etc. Then you will get into the watercolor inks. Watercolor inks are beautiful and flowing. This is a very popular class. Come and explore your creativity while learning about design principles which can be applied to all of your paintings.

POSTCARDS IN THE GARDEN WITH KARIN HUEHOLD - This class was a great success last summer so we are offering it again. When we dream of sitting in our garden, or in the park or mountains, painting, there is often so much beauty surrounding us that we don’t know where to start – this is a great introduction to outdoor painting. You will sit in the courtyard outside the Paintbox and spend the day painting what pleases you in a fun and casual manner. You will make notes, do small studies, play with paint, mood and light, explore, simplify, define and paint the things that excite you. In this class you will use watercolor and some pen and ink. This will be a wonderful, fun, and non-intimidating way to explore painting in the outdoors. You will do a series of small 5"x6" paintings…a full plein aire day of painting.

SOLAR PAINTING WITH URSULA REYNOLDS - How about using sunshine to help you paint - this class uses the warm sunshine rays to help make special effects on your paper. You will be using watercolor inks and a variety of objects to create unexpected patterns, colors, and textures on your paper. If you take delight in the unexpected and unusual - this will be a fun class for you. These paintings can be used as paintings themselves or as beautiful pieces in a collage. The results are always varied and often spectacular.

PLEINE AIRE CHILDREN'S CLASSES WITH JOLA MURAN - This 4 week class will give your child a chance to create art in the outdoors (en pleine air...is a french expression which means "painting in the open air"). The children will paint colorful and bright paintings using both the paintbox courtyard and the paintbox studio. Their inspiration will be the outdoors, the sun dancing off their paintings as birds fly overhead and the new leaves and flowers happily giving us ideas for our expressive art. The children will use acrylics for the first two weeks and watercolor for the last two weeks. It is a great opportunity and will be a lot of fun.

All classes are held at the Paintbox Studio in the back of the store. A supply list will be provided for you upon registration or we would be happy to email it to you. All supplies for the classes are available at the Paintbox at a 10% discount. The teacher's art work is on display at the Paintbox.
Every Friday is Open Studio where you can book a spot for a morning session (10:30-1:30) or an afternoon session (1:30-4:30) for only $5.00. If you want to paint with others or just need a time out from home to explore your creativity - come out and try this studio time.
